Biennale Sessions

Conversation with Manuel Aires Mateus
Tese dei Soppalchi – Arsenale di Venezia
2016

On the occasion of its participation to the Biennale Sessions, during the Architecture Biennale 2016 directed by Alejandro Aravena, Abadir Academy met the portuguese architect Manuel Aires Mateus. The seminar, inspired by the installation created by the architects Aires Mateus inside the Central Pavilion of the Biennale, aimed to generate an open and informal conversation between students, teachers, professionals and the architect. The idea of Luigi Pellegrino, curator of the meeting, was to start from a simple and confidential situation to stimulate an unexpected debate on different themes while focusing on the form and the meaning of the event itself.

“Between earth and sky, floor and ceiling, two horizontal elements probe the limit of the space along the vertical of the body; no longer the wall as a measure of space, almost a re-foundation of architecture.”
