Gran Via Acoustic Panel
Urban acoustic element
Barcelona, Spain
1999-2007
Project Architect: EMBT
Client: Barcelona city hall
The Gran Via has the largest road capacity of all the roads that enter the center of Barcelona. The aim of the project was to reduce the noise of traffic affecting the surround housing from more than 80 decibels to less than 50 decibels. The acoustic panel was made of GRC concrete and steel ribs and shows colored acrylics of Barcelona city. The colored panels project their colors onto the road like the stained glass of a church, providing a new gateway for traffic entering Barcelona from the east.
